The Design Process

Our design process is a collaborative effort involving the exchange of information and ideas.  Together we will design a well thought out environment utilizing low maintenance plant selections, earth-friendly planting techniques, and sound follow-up care practices.

1. Initial Consultation:

We will meet with you at your home to discuss your ideas and vision for your garden.  We will walk around your property together and discuss your questions, concerns, plant preferences, and maintenance problems.

2. Proposal:

After our meeting, we will prepare a proposal that will detail the design objectives and each phase of the project as well as an estimated cost of your design.

3. Site Analysis and Measurements:

Upon acceptance of the proposal and a deposit, we will analyze the site and take photographs and measurements.  A thorough site analysis will identify potential problems and allow us to correct such issues as erosion and related drainage problems, unacceptable noise levels, or unsightly views.

4. Base Plan and Preliminary Concepts:

We will create a base plan (example) of your existing landscape from which we will develop two preliminary designs that will reflect your style and needs.  These designs will show the major circulation routes, hardscape, structures, trees, and planting beds.  Existing plot plans of the major property can aid in making the design process proceed more quickly.

5. Client Review:

Together we will review the preliminary design (example) and all other aspects including materials and plant recommendations.

6. Final Plan:

Based on your suggestions, we will then create the final plan (example) and provide you with full color drawings and plant information.  The plan will include a scale drawing, a plant list (quantities and sizes) and locations of landscape features.  For hardscape elements such as terraces, decks, walkways and walls, construction notes and drawings are also provided.

7. Installation:

Once the final plan is complete, we work with you to install the complete landscape or, if you prefer, assist you in implementing your project in phases.  We can coordinate with recommended trade professionals for site construction and installation.  Acting as your general contractor we will secure bids/estimates and coordinate installation.  We can personally source and obtain all plant materials and garden accessories.  Throughout this process we will continue to oversee the work to ensure proper implementation.  We will also be happy to assist you if you would like to do some or all of the installation yourself.
